Tahoe Conservancy Programs

A state agency, the Tahoe Conservancy is charged with preserving and enhancing the unique ecological and recreational values of the Tahoe basin. This Conservancy's work with private owners of wetland property comes primarily through its acquisition program. The program is currently the Conservancy's highest priority; it focuses on obtaining conservation easements, development rights or full title to land that contains marsh, meadow, or riparian areas, and sites with actual or potential erosion problems. The Tahoe Conservancy offers 95 percent of what the property would bring on the open market. In addition, at the landowner's request the Conservancy is often willing to do restoration work on sites for which it has conservation easements.

Availability

The Tahoe Conservancy operates within the basin draining to Lake Tahoe, (more specifically described in the California government code). For more information contact the Conservancy at (916) 542-5580.
