Letter to Local ISP's

To All Local ISP's:

The Tahoe Center for a Sustainable Future (TCSF) collaborated with other organizations to bring a grant from the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) to the Tahoe/Truckee region. This grant's organizing focus is improving access to Regional information important to securing a future with a healthy environment, sustainable economy, and involved community. This grant is funding the accelerated development of the ability to use information technologies in our Region by working intensively with 25 organizations to assist in their effective use and creative applications.

This project has created a Tahoe Basin wide-area network (TBWAN) with linked web sites on the internet connecting government agencies, non-profit organizations, community-based organizations and businesses. The California Resources Agency, a partner in the grant, is holding the TBWAN web pages as part of the CERES program. Due to limited resources, web site storage and design is not funded for approximately 75 organizations that have showed an interest in collaborating on this community-based project. Those organizations not included as part of the initial group are being offered public training workshops and some assistance to help them use the Internet and to create simple HTML documents. We are offering this assistance to encourage these organizations to get on-line, but they will obviously need additional services from ISPs in this area. We would like to provide them with a description of their local options and the costs associated.
