Trout Creek Assessment and Restoration Project
Project Description
Description: Evaluation of current state of the environment along Trout Creek (including erosion and water quality degradation sources and habitat quality) and assessment of the effects of future actions in the watershed. This study can aid in determining desirable future land use actions.
Instructional Goals of the Project:
- To read and interpret topographic maps.
- To identify areas of erosion within the watershed- in the stream channel.
- To identify ways to control erosion and implement.
- To identify invertebrates in streams and assess stream quality based on findings.
- To search for information from town officers concerning current and future land uses and assess
effects on creek.
restoration - trash pickup and plant vegetation
- Determine slope in areas of erosion.
- Map the stream using the compass and GPS system.
- Map vegetation.
- Determine flow rates.
- Wildlife assessment including inventory and assessment of risks.
Evaluation Technique: Continuous data acquisition and comparison, determination of aesthetic appeal
(photography, update mapping), student evaluations, student quarterly reports posted on BBS.
