Net at Two Rivers (N2R) will deliver a unique product for teaching literacy skill using community information (voter registration forms, hospital forms, school forms) in a user friendly, on-line tutorial formatted for access through the World Wide Web (WWW). With assistance of a site tutor, illiterate adults will access the information away from the potential intimidation of traditional classrooms, in public access sites such as community centers or libraries.
N2R is a national model which demonstrates how to sustain rural information infrastructure needs through a collaboration which spreads literacy resources from a state capital into isolated rural regions. It was a tough task to include so many counties. Rural areas need sharing of urban resources, not isolation form them. A wise national policy is to encourage partnering between urban and rural areas. the nation need the Net at Two Rivers as a long term model for demonstrating the way to reduce disparities of access for rural regions through regional sharing of both costs and resources.
