SNEP is the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem
Study, a congressionally mandated 3 year study of the entire Sierra Nevada
range. The study was managed by the University of California Centers for
Water and Wildland Resources, Davis, CA under a research agreement with the
U. S. Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station, Albany, CA.
Posted on this web site will be the final reports from this intensive study
by an independent science team. Formal release of the report to Congress
occurred on June 7, 1996. Several elements of the report are to be posted
here as we are able to incorporate the material. The project Summary (24
pages, 2 figures) and Volume 1 (12 chapters, many tables and figures, 8
color plates), summary of the assessments, case studies, and alternative
strategies will be available in early June. These two reports provide a broad overview of the entire study and include the table of contents for volumes 2 and 3 which are the in-depth studies of the various components of the Sierra. Volume 1 also includes appendices that explain the congressional origin of the study, the charge for the study, administration of the project, and names of all team members and associated scientists. Locations where hard copies of the entire document can be seen or copied will be included.
