Greg Wenneson at the helm of a community-based GIS.
Sonoma Valley GIS's goal is to develop a Geographic Information System (GIS) based model of the Sonoma Valley region that describes natural features such as geology, hydrology, topography, climate data, plant communities and wildlife habitat; and human features such as land use, infrastructure, zoning, and other relevant information. Volunteer professionals with skills in software, botany, biology, hydrology, and ecology are cooperating in the development of the data and user access system. Currently, relevant data is being collected and entered into an ARC/INFO GIS to create a model of the valley watershed environment. The model will support improved land use and watershed planning by local and regional groups as well as provide the general public with improved access to information about the natural and cDLtural resoures of the Sonoma Valley.
