The Defensible Space and Healthy Forest Handbook: A Guide to Reducing the Wildfire Threat is an excellent resource, prepared by the Placer Hills Fire Protection District, Placer County RCD and the NRCS for residents of the Sierra Nevada foothills. The booklet is available for $15.
