Program: Klamath Basin Area Office Restoration Program

 

Program Description: The purpose of the program is to work with private and non-private landowners interested in improving ecological conditions on their lands. The emphasis of the restoration program is to provide funds for on-the-ground restoration activities that provide long term benefits to the ecosystem while encouraging partnering in the Klamath River Watershed; upstream of the confluence of the Trinity River and the Klamath River. The project must benefit at least one of the following species: Lost River Sucker; Shortnose Sucker, Coho Salmon; Steelhead Trout. Research and environmental investigation proposals will not be considered for funding. Project goals should include restoring water quality and/or quantitiy necessary to support healthy ecoystems in the Klamath River Watershed upsteam of the confluence of the Trinity River and the Klamath River. Project designs must be based on the proven techniques. Experimental or unknown techniques/designs/methods are not acceptable. This program is part of a Watershed Restoration Program Request for Proposal issued by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the US Bureau of Reclamation.

 

Eligible Communities: Portions of Del Norte, Humboldt, Siskiyou and Trinity Counties. Projects will not be considered for the Trinity River watershed and the Klamath River watershed below the confluence with the Trinity River.

 

Funding Information: Costs must be commensurate with the resource benefits. Projects should demonstrate how cost effective the project will be.

 

Timelines: The most recent RFP was released in September 1998 with an application due date of October 16, 1998. The Review and Rank Committee will meet for the final review in December 1998. Proposals recommended by the Committee for funding will be forwarded to the appropriate agency for final selection and approval.
