Program: Rural Community Assistance Program
Program Description: Provide planning, technical and financial assistance to communities dependent on forest related resources. Funds may be used to meet self-determined needs of eligible communities, counties, and tribes. Most aspects of community economic development are authorized providing they are included in comprehensive local or regional strategic planning efforts.
Funds may be used to help communities organize local community action planning teams and develop community plans. Funds may support implementation of natural resource related projects including diversification and feasibility studies identified in the community plans.
Eligible Communities: Community Assistance funds are dedicated to communities affected by the President's Forest Plan and eligible for the Forest Service Economic Recovery Program (see program summary).
Funding Information: Matching requirements limit federal contributions to no more than 80% of total project. Local match may be in cash or in kind services. Funding coordination with Federal, State, local sources including foundations, non-governmental organizations, volunteer organizations and private sector sources are encouraged.
Community Assistance funds will be accessed through the CERT with referral to the Forest Service as a lead agency or as a contributor in partnership with other State and Federal agencies participating in the Northwest Economic Adjustment Initiative.
