  • Supporting the economic, social and environmental well-being of California's Great Central Valley, The Great Valley Center, based in Modesto, makes grants to local efforts in a range of topic areas, provides technical support, and holds events on issues important to the Valley's future.

  • The California Coastal Commission, maintains an extensive Marine, Coastal and Watershed Resource Directory of educational resources and programs, volunteer opportunities and internship possibilities in California that address marine, coastal and watershed topics.

  • Based in Davis, California, The Institute for Ecological Health, connects the conservation of rural landscapes and a viable agricultural economy to the conservation and enhancement of wildlife habitat, native biodiversity and ecological functions.

  • The Information Center for the Environment is a cooperative effort of environmental scientists at the University of California, Davis and collaborators at over thirty private, state, federal, and international organizations interested in environmental protection. This is an excellent resource for more information on environmental projects in California.

  • Over the course of its 12 years, the Sierra Biodiversity Institute has sponsored and contributed to many programs and projects that have improved biodiversity in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains.

  • Visit the Cal Alive! website. The Cal Alive! Project is a non-profit organization that creates educational software about biodiversity in California.

  • Visit the www.actionbioscience.org website and find a plethora of articles by scientists, science educators, and science students on issues related to seven bioscience challenges: environment, biodiversity, human genome, biotechnology, evolution, new frontiers, and bioscience education.

  • The California Legacy Project (formerly: CCRISP)  is an initiative by the California Resources Agency to help state agencies and the state's conservation partners make better decisions about how to conserve our state's precious natural resources.

  • Learn about biodiversity in Canada. The vision of Environment Canada is to see a Canada where people make responsible decisions about the environment, and where the environment is thereby sustained for the benefit of present and future generations. Find a wealth of information and an online newsletter on their website.

  • The Southern California Association of Governments has a Creating Livable Places website that highlights SCAG's work in creating more livable communities, smart growth, and alternative transportation.

  • The California Academy of Sciences provides a very informative website. Find articles, research, and a large photo database.

  • The University of California Extension holds a variety of intensive short courses designed for scientists, regulatory personnel, and members of community groups alike.

  • Specializing in California plants and ecology, the California Native Plant Society aims to preserve native flora and contribute to the knowledge of the public.

  • The Society for Conservation Biology Network has a wealth of biodiversity-related resources.
